Just when you may have thought the attempted power grab that our community witnessed during the incorporation boondoggle was over, the Incorporation Squad is at it again in The Woodlands Township 2023 Board of Directors elections. There is a lot at stake in this year’s off-year Township Board elections when voter turnout is often low and Squad-aligned special interest groups and agitators can have an outsized influence. This is my candidate analysis for this year’s Township elections.

The groundwater pumpers are at it again in Montgomery County, pumping water like drunken sailors. A last-minute amendment to Texas House Bill 1540 (HB 1540) could make things worse.

In our local election for the Township Board of Directors, I am supporting Brad Bailey (Po.1), Linda Nelson (Po. 2), Richard Franks (Po. 3), and Kyle Watson (Po. 4). These candidates will ensure that The Woodlands remains a "township" with limited government, low property taxes, and premier services and amenities. To learn more about these races, check out my candidate analysis.

It is time to elect civic-minded leaders who will listen to the community while removing incumbents and other candidates who have followed along with the Incorporation Squad and its misguided agenda.

Incorporation Squad leaders Gordy Bunch and Bruce Rieser have not filed their names for the November 2022 Woodlands Township Board of Directors election ballot. They will be stepping down from their positions at the end of this term. Thus starts a shakeup of the Woodlands Township Board of Directors in the wake of its failed incorporation push.

The Township Board rejected calls to return its $20.8M of incorporation reserves in full to The Woodlands taxpayers through a one-time property tax rebate of $.0835 and 2023 property tax rate of $.1129 per $100 of valuation. With a new $19.8M in estimated annually recurring revenue surplus and $20.8M of newly available incorporation reserves, the Board chose to give back only $2.8M of that $40.6M to property taxpayers through a property tax rate decrease.
