The Woodlands Township Elections November 2022

Mr. Mitchell’s goal to have 1.5 jobs per household was rather unique for a suburban community. Certainly, as an economic developer, we see the positive impact of having an abundance of jobs for our residents and not be a typical “bedroom community”. The vision of Mr. Mitchell’s "Live, Work, Play and Learn" is still the essence of our community.

In our 19 years of existence, we have held true to our mission of job growth and capital investment in our community. We offer all the available resources in The Woodlands area to help facilitate a company’s move or expansion to our area, including site selection, business incentives and workforce recruitment and training to name a few.

The Woodlands In Focus recently submitted an Open Records Request with The Woodlands Township to get copies of all of the Township's Incorporation Impact studies and memos (2012 to 2016). The Township was prompt and responsive to the request.

Though these documents self disclose that they are not official tax rate studies, they were commissioned to project the estimated revenues, costs, and property tax rate impacts of incorporation (based on assumptions approved by the Township staff and/or Board). Below are the three PDFs provided by the Township (arranged chronologically) from February 10, 2012 through September 23, 2016.

"We knew the best place for it to be would be in the wooded area, north of Houston. And so we selected an area 25 miles from downtown Houston, to start putting the block together."

"...Ian McHarg did wonderful work studying the environmental issues on the whole 25,000 acres. We did such a good job that HUD then used the plan that we had as an example for other projects in the country. The concept would be 7 villages, totaling 125,000 people..."

"...And I actually took the risk of clearing out 40 acres for our town center, thinking we were going to win the big mall, which we finally won."

On October 19, 1974, The Woodlands celebrated its grand opening and the introduction of this new community to the Houston marketplace. Progress over the years has been achieved through the collaborative efforts of our employees, residents, governmental agencies, churches, civic organizations, financial institutions and business leaders who have chosen The Woodlands as a preferred location. Defining events as set forth in the following chronology have made The Woodlands unique and the achievements rather amazing.

Two mature bald eagles have lived in the area near Lake Woodlands since 2000, nest hopping at least five times since settling in the area. Their current nest, which they've kept for the past four years, is located in a tree right next to Lake Front Circle, not far from The Woodlands United Methodist Church.

...To continue the protection of the bald eagles at Hughes Landing, The Woodlands Development Co. has built its plans for the mixed-use development around the birds, leaving a 4.6-acre forest buffer around the nest. They are particularly careful that construction nearby does not disturb the birds during the nesting period, which stretches from October to June, LeBlanc explained.
