Since rebranding itself as a sustainability-focused research center in 2001, HARC has worked on the science and energy of clean energy, air and water, renewable resources and other "green" research.

    In just three years, The Woodlands has successfully reduced its carbon footprint by 84,000 metric tons and increased the amount recycled by 197 tons thanks to the community’s effort and Waste Management.

    In the past three years, the township has stocked 30 ponds per year with bass, catfish and carp. It also contracts with a lake and pond company to ensure that each body of water is healthy and provides a quality habitat for fish.

    Around the perimeter of the gated garden in Alden Bridge grows a Children's Garden, which is specifically designed to serve as an educational opportunity for young people. Groups from Conroe ISD and private schools, youth programs and even families wandering over after a sports game next door have the opportunity to see where healthy produce comes from.
