    The Houston Advanced Research Center was founded by George P. Mitchell, the mastermind behind the development of The Woodlands, in 1982. Since rebranding itself as a sustainability-focused research center in 2001, HARC has worked on the science and energy of clean energy, air and water, renewable resources and other "green" research.

    The Woodlands, with its significant supply of Class A office space—including two office towers totaling 1.4 million square feet (130,000 sq m) for the headquarters of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation—had become a desirable locale for corporate headquarters or the regional offices of major companies.

    At its last meeting of the year, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors authorized a grant of $25,000 to the Bayou Land Conservancy for the Spring Creek Greenway and $72,000 to hire PGAL for a preliminary analysis of the planned transportation center and parking garage.

    In the past three years, the township has stocked 30 ponds per year with bass, catfish and carp. It also contracts with a lake and pond company to ensure that each body of water is healthy and provides a quality habitat for fish.
